About us

The Pearl River County Historical Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that was created in 1972 to preserve our history and educate our community of our local heritage. The society was incorporated in 1974 and is registered with the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) organization. All donations to the Society are 100 % deductible.

 

The house to the left was the home of S. G. Thigpen, Sr. The house has been remodeled and added on to and is currently the home of a local businessman.

At the time the photo was taken the roadway in front of the house was still a dirt road. Any ideas on the make and model of the automobile in the carport?

 

 

Mission

  • To bring together people interested in local history;

  • To promote better understanding of our American Heritage and democratic way of life;

  • To discover, collect, and preserve any material which can help establish or illustrate the history of Picayune, Poplarville, Pearl River County and the surrounding area;

  • To disseminate and arouse interest in historical information'

  • To cooperate with the other state historical societies and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to make PRCHS materials available to the public.

The Museum

     The museum collection consists of numerous artifacts that include garments, goods, tools, furnishings and general items related to churches, schools, industry, small business, historic buildings and home, organizations and individuals.

     Material donations related to the area's history and development are always welcome.
